Have you taken time this weekend to get low before God? Have you humbled yourself and taken your place of deepest lowliness? Have you, as a sinner, bowed in self-abasement? Have you as a saint, let God’s love overwhelm you and bow still lower down? I pray that you have begun to spend time with God, and have realized His place, and your place in the process.
I was convicted several years ago that in my quiet time, my posture before God is to be kneeling before Him. I had been guilty of leaning back in my office chair and drinking my coffee while I prayed. While preparing a special message for a homecoming service about the time that the Boston Marathon bombing occurred. I was preaching from the 2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
I didn’t get past the “humble themselves” before God had convicted me that leaning back in my chair and drinking coffee was not exactly while praying was a pretty arrogant way for me to enter into God’s presence, and was convicted that kneeling was the posture I was supposed to take. Sometimes we need to be prone and “on our face” before God.
I’m not saying that this is what you have to do. I am suggesting that you try it. Try it for a week. I think it will change the way you think about your prayer life!
Pray: Holy Lord, please help us to enter into your presence with humility.
